Center Console Wanted - 85 Thunderbird

I have an 85 thunderbird base edition with the center consolette... flip down armrest thing. I have always wanted a center console.  If you find the reddish color one please let me know.  I am willing to email or post pictures of my interior so color match is less of an issue. 

Oh, unless there is a wiring nightmare it would cause with the windows and seats..... I have already been informed that I will have to cut the consolette off... not a biggie.

A guy I know has a junk yard with a 87 bird in it. I harvested the seats as I did the same thing you are doing. The console is red and was still there the last time I checked. The 87 console ends even with the front seats I think where the 85 goes all the way to the rear seat bottom. I had a console from a 84 which I used. Its a real easy swap which helps a ton in the looks department.  There was a link on the coolcats site if I remember correctly which gives excellent directions, it was either there or someone on this site sent it to me. Either way easy deal and the guys on here are more than helpful as well. The car at the j/y is a floor shift car so you would have to find the bucket for column shift(ebay). Let me know if you want me to go see if its still there and what he wants for it.

It is good to hear from someone with experience on this.  I have not visited with anybody yet about this.  Glad it is easy!  I'm stoked.  I have always hated that consolette.... I've got my fingers crossed that it is red and in good shape.  I'll attach a pic of my interior so you are familiar with the color for sure.

If it is not problem, absolutely, check it out for me.  I  think the shorter one will look okay.  What is your opinion?

You will also need to change the dash trim around the radio/ heater selector. It doesn't go all the way to the floor with the full console, it curves out at the bottom to meet the console. And the ashtray will have to be removed.

I'll have two consoles Saturday.Although one is already spoken for.You may have to get the console and dye it the color you want.I dyed mine over a year ago,and it still looks new.I also have the trays for the console if you have a column shifter.It takes the place of the shifter .

Dansbirds is checking on a red console for me as well.  He knows of where one is....

I'm not familiar at all with dying parts, etc.  Have there been instructional threads on this?  I would love to know more becasue I may have to dye some other interior parts.

But as for the trays for the console... absolutely.  I'll need them either way.  I'll PM you, and when you contact me we'll get it all worked out.  Sounds like I will need that trim molding piece too.

Oh, and dansbirds mentioned that every once in awhile you'll come up with the seat belts that attach to the seats.

Gosh, I feel like a burden!
