As long as she can pay off the credit and keep a good credit history I dont see too much wrong with it. You gotta build up good credit these days anyway.

Though...with 4 of those things... I find it hard to believe she can keep them paid up.

thats what my initial thought was, 4 of them. i can see 1, maybe 2 - 1 for food/groceries etc and 1 for emergencies. but 4?!?! again, i wish her all the luck.

true that. but then again if you work hard and save your money. I see kids at school that look down apon me beacuse my "race car" is is a thunderbird. Most of the people that are that ignorant are driving a iroc era camaro. that they ACTUALLY have an aftermarket for. i just got this this this this and some of these and one of those ima put it all in tonight.

hey guess what... i have to custom fab things up whoo for you:flip:

and hell half the time they dont pay for it honestly.

I only have a debit card right now. I'm not a fan of CCs. I like spending money I actually have.

My daughter is 21 and has about 4 of them (that I know about). she works all week to pay them + cell phone. She says she never has money but always buys something new.
We're not sure where she picked up that way to live, we always taught her the opposite.

That's why it takes me awhile to buy stuff for my 88 T-bird. I buy all the *performance* parts with cash. I'm not going into big time debt for a hobby. It's not worth it...........

That was the way I learned. save and spend, save and spend.
although its easy to learn when you're self employed and never know when the next paycheck is coming or how much it is.

I think a lot of these kids with the fancy, expensive cars can do so because they're living at home with their parents and have no bills. If you're not paying for rent, heat, lights, cable, phone, internet and groceries it's easy to throw money at your car. I worked with a guy that was in that situation, and he was always buying car parts.

As for credit cards: Sometimes a credit card can be a good thing. Living in Canada a person can often save 50% or more when buying something online (and that's with the dollar at par). For example I recently bought a drive shaft for my ATV online from a Michigan Arctic Cat dealership for $80 shipped - that's for a brand new original Arctic Cat part. To buy it locally it would have been $300, and they'd have had to order it in anyway, so it's not even like instant gratification was a factor. Similarly I bought myself seven books for Christmas. The in-store price totaled almost $150. I went home and ordered 'em from Amazon for $70. The credit card is a required for online purchases such as that.

Sometimes it can even be an absolute necessity - I need mine to sell on eBay (gotta pay eBay seller's fees with it and need it for a PayPal account). When I buy electronic components I do it online using the credit card. When I print shipping labels, ditto.

The thing is, to do it the smart way, you should always pay the balance off in full every month. I pay mine off as I go - if I buy a $15 shipping label I go right into my online banking and make a $15 payment. I consider the card as a means of spending money I have, not money I don't have. My monthly statements regularly feature over $1k worth of purchases and payments.

The bank tries everything they can to tempt me into spending more than I pay, though. They send me Visa checks, special offers, etc. And they raised my limit from its original $1000 four years ago to $25,000 today without my even asking. I'll never spend that much, of course (unless I were to find out I were dying, then it'd be HELLO SUMMIT RACING!). Still, it's nice to know that if I had an emergency (such as septic tank exploding, roof leak, well failure, etc) I have a backup funding source...

since cccards got brought in, ill share something with you all. I recenly called capital one since i was one of the millions of people that had my interest raised from 9.9fixed to 13.9. I asked to have it reduced back down and to my amazement, they did.

I called them a few months ago to have it lowered but they would not budge. After the big 3 cc companies were up before congress being investigated, lots of dirty laundry got aired and capital one came out without a scratch.

I gues they lowerd it back on a case by case basis but if anyone has capital one like i do, and you had your interest raised about 18months ago, give em a call.

They also raised my credit limit to around 25k and i asked to have it lowered back to 10k. If you have too much revolving credit available to you, you chances of securing a loan puts you in a catch 22 where they may consider your interest rate at the bank higher because it is a higher risk.

As for credit card junk mail, i was reading the documents they sent me on a couple of them and there was a statment on the front page that read something like this. "If you wish to no longer recieve solicitation from this or other agencies, please call the following number to OPTOUT"
I called, the computer system asked me a few questions, i ignored the computers demand for my SSN, then with the little information i gave it , a letter in the mail arrived with a confirmation I had completed my OPTOUT for 5 years. This means aht sometime in the near future, i wll see less junk mail like that plus eventually none at all.

On the OPTOUT document, there was a further option that required me to sign /date requesting the 4 agencies such as equifax ect prevent agencies from soliciting my information for mailing purposes FOR LIFE/PERMENANTLY. So,, I mailed it in and we will see what happens.

Why did i to this? In 2006, congress passed a law into effect that all citizens should have access to thier credit report free of charge once a year. This implemented the http://www.annualcreditreport.com which allows you access to your credit information as long as you are able to pass the questions as proof you are who you say you are. This is not an easy task adn TransUnion is by far the most difficult.
Back on topic,, while i was in there looking at my information,, I noticed stinking Discovery had issued me two credit card accounts and each were for about 8k. So,,,, there sits an additonal 16 thousand dollars of revolving credit i knew nothing about or the credit card to use. I found two other accounts as well for much lower amounts but still,,,,,,, banks look at that stuff when they guage your credit worthyness.

Lol my girlfriend has a '84 Z28 Camaro, always pokes fun at my "tank", I just tell her that its gonna be faster. Only thing I like about her car is the T-tops.

YA KNOW, it's been said before here.....we don't like these cars because of some strange incomprehensible force a la Close Encounters of the Third Kind. They really ARE worth someone's consideration.

I think I've read a few other tales similar to this from fellow members here...like a buddy or family member was given a ride in the particular thundercat or allowed to drive it and was surprisingly impressed by it.

Kudos to that kid, I sure hope he does drop by!!!!
