77 Ford F100 heads January 24, 2008, 11:55:45 PM Any idea what casting they might be and if they would be a worth wile swap on a SO 5.0?Thanks,DZ Quote Selected

Except for the '69-'71 351 heads, no other common small block head is going to be as good as the E5AE/E5TE('85 HO & truck) or E7TE... Heads prior to '78 use a non adjustable stud type rocker setup... 77 Ford F100 heads Reply #4 – January 25, 2008, 11:09:37 AM I don’t know if this makes since or not, but I’d try to stay away from any cylinder head from the late 60s up to now minus the aftermarket ones. Isn't that when the fuel crises started all that fuel economy bs and they started playing with the heads/pistons to get low compression, or allot of turbulence in the head for better mpg? Anybody else? That’s just what I’ve been told for years here and there, but I don't have any actual hard evidence of it. This also makes me think it would be good to get a list of years that different engines had good heads… maybe I’m just talking out of my ass lol… Quote Selected

I got my GT40Ps brand new. They cost more than junkyard heads but cheaper than after market iron or aluminium heads (even with the spring upgrade for the cam). You can pick up GT40 or GT40P heads for cheap off of 5.0 Explorers. The problem is finding a 5.0 Explorer as well as the fact that with out changing the pistons you're gonna smack some valves on a SO. On the cheap I'd go with E5 or E7 heads and port the bejesus out of them. Quote Selected
