Body Work questions

hey im new to this forum, and i knda need a little help

i have an 86 cougar XR7 that i am restoring, The drivers side door needs to be replaced, along with the passenger fender.

i havent had all that much luck finding anything but i havent expended all my resources yet.

well anyway my questions are... is their any way to get the trim off of the door area/front and rear winshield w/o destroying it???

I read a post from a few years ago and it said something about  National Autobody Parts Warehouse? They had my fender, but are they reputable source????

If anyone has and tips or tricks oh how to get the door and the fener off id really appreciate it

thank you, here are some pics....

You might be better off finding used panels from someone on the board. I tried finding doors and fenders for my 87 cougar. but when i ordered from 4 diff. sites, they all called saying the parts were out of stock. and they weren't going to stock them. Anyway I hear a lot of mis alignment problems with aftermarket panels.
To make a long story short. I bought used panels for 80% of my car for less than buying 2 aftermarket fenders. Be patient and ask around. you'll find what you need. this board has something for everyone.

I used a long razor blade to get the body moulding off. be careful not to crease the metal backing strip or the moulding will be wavy if not straightened before reinstalling

I guess you are asking how to remove the trim round the windshield? they make a special tool to remove the trim from those clips that hold it on there. You can use a small flat blade screw driver but you have to be extra careful.  As for the trim around the door window it is held on by screws. You'll have to take the mirrors of to get it off there. The lower door window piece is screwed down at both ends. The stuff on the door but behind the window it you kind have to pry off it has a spring type clip holding it on there. The the stuff around the rear side window is held on with plastic clips you have to pry it of very gently. The front edge of the side window trim is screwed on inside the door area. Hope that helps with the trim. Looks like you have some work to do Welcome aboard! Glad to have another new person and Cougar.
