Wtf is with this?

Every alternator harness has busted plugs even at the junk yard. I just replaced my alt and both plugs busted so I spliced in a spare set that is questionable. Seems like ever freakin harness i see is busted up. How much is a new harness to splice in and where can I order one. I`m done with the junkyard`s wiring. I almost have it running again but It drains my battery quick when I crank on it. battery has been tested and it`s good. Had a lot of parts and sensors go bad. DONT let a car sit for 10 years! lol

It was a known issue from the factory that had the potential to cause a fire. Your best bet would be to purchase a new Ford alternator harness end from a good parts store for around $10 US. It will come with the necessary splice connectors. Use good heat shrink tubing over the connectors, and then securely wrap the new connector with good electrical tape (and wire loom covering if possible).

Get it from the parts store. Hell new alternators from the parts store come with 'em already.

The Ford dealer by me wants $30 for one of the connectors new :wtf:

I replaced the plugs with new ones from oriley`s but it still draws voltage down quick. any ideas? I swear it`s a bad battery but they test it and say it`s good.

What do you mean by this?
Do you have a drain on the battery that discharges it when the car is not running?

bad diodes in the alt will draw the battery down overnight.

a bad ground will also cause starting issues.Remeber a good ground is bare clean metal no rust no paint.

Here`s what it`s doing. I leave the battery unhooked when i`m not working on it. everytime I hook it up and crank on it for a few seconds it drains slowly to 11.58 volts then the voltage comes back to 12 once it sits for a few minutes. It`s been doing this once it got cold outside and the morons at the parts store wont test it right. a little load on the battery like cranking it for 2 seconds does this. Only when I crank it. 2 other friend`s of mine had this happen and it turned out to be a bad battery. I guess I shouldnt have bought the cheapest battery.

Sounds normal to me. The voltage will sag under the load of the starter motor.
When it starts the voltage should jump up to 14-14.5 volts if the alternator is working.

Well Motorcraft ones do:D . There is a local parts guy who is a Motorcraft dealer. He sells the stuff for half of what it costs at a dealer. I got a Motorcraft TFI for the '95 T-bird for $65. Try getting it for that at the dealer ;)

its always best to change the battery and alt together as a matched set.  This covers your ass in the future incase either your battery cells have been damaged from an alternator with a bad diode putting out some AC ,, and or,,, your battery being damaged slightly putting too much load on the alternator to which the battery will never charge up to.

A known good battery will charge above 12v,, more like 13.5 with no load.

No doubt good info, but in the 41 years I've owned vehicles(bought my first just before Thanksgiving '66), I'm yet to follow the practice...

Jcassity, I just bought a new battery for the Chevy truck I've been..umm...suffering with ;) and about 45 seconds after the new battery was in and I started the truck, the battery light came on and was only charging around 8 or 9 volts.
Took the alt. in to the shop, new rectifier, and bearing, and all is well again.
The battery that was in the truck was a swelled up, stinky, worn out POS.
One other thing, since putting the new battery in, and the repaired alt back in, the truck's volt gauge sits at a different position than it did before, around 14 volts or so...strange.
I just wanted to verify jcassity's experience, the chevy did the same thing he described...
Sorry for the thread-jack.
