Serious question - Animal people... please help!

We have 3 cats. The first 2 are 5 and 1 and very good to us. We've had them both for a year and they're great. It's #3 that's a problem. We just got him last week, he's 18, and doing OK health wise. He has no diseases, no front claws, and no teeth. He lived his entire life at an old folks home, caring for people before they die. They were going to put him to sleep because he's old and they didn't want to deal with it (the irony!).

The thing is, he can't control his bowels. He leaks liquified poop all over the house and it's ruining the place. My g/f (who's the vegan hippie animal lover) keeps a bleach bucket at the ready all the time. It's destroying our house and the poor guy knows it. He tries to make it to a litterbox (we have 2), and you can tell that he knows it's upsetting.

We just don't know what to do. Nobody would ever take him in, and all the vet's want to do is put him to sleep. We aren't "attatched" yet, but the poor guy deserves better then this. What can we do?

We need help!

BTW, the 1 year old is a striped long hair named "Nibbler", the 4 year old is an all-gray shorthair named "Einstein", and the 18 year old is an orange tabby named "Dude".

Poor guy couldn't, his hips don't work. He kinda "waddles" around. Except for the poo leakage he's healthy, so it's tough to put him down over just that. We're bringing him in tomorrow to the vet's to see what he has wrong. :(

I too hope everything turns out good.  What about stashing litterboxes all over the house?  That may help.

Sorry to hear that man...
Had about the same problems, Don't feel like going into details... Female cat named Gracie, I loved her so much... I grew up with her, She was going on 19 years.

My family decided it was best to put her to sleep so she she nor us would continue to suffer. :punchballs:
And animal diapers rarely work (They hate them), Extra Boxes in different area's help sometimes.

When our old dog (fem dalmatian) started doing this exact thing, it was time to put it out of it's misery.  Sucked, but it had to be done.

You had better go invest in one of those portable carpet shampoo machines.Carpet isn't cheap.A couple more litter boxes also if you keep him.Put them where he hangs out the most.Or,put food and water outside and let him live out there in the garage.Your choices are limited unless you wait for your wife to go out for a while and you take him to a shelter and tell her he ran off or something.I'm lucky,my cat (she doesn't know she's a cat,so you guys don't say anything to her) doesn't have those problems.I also feed her Purina cat food for indoor cats. She has never been outside (she's 4 1/2,had her since she was 5 weeks).I also clean her littler box everyday.I don't have pet smells in the house and it will stay that way.She also gets a bath every Friday.

We have hardwood floors. We locked him in the bathroom with a litterbox and a water bowl. Poor guy :( We're taking him into the vet on Monday to see if he has anything wrong.

Our other 2 cats are great, but they know something's up with the old one. Nibbler, the 1 year old, sits by the bathroom door and sticks her paw under the door.

Wait to see what the vet says we (as in my family have been through stuff like this). My mom has 5 cats and the peeing wars get pretty heavy, we actually had an older cat. Her name was Calli (calico) but she was about 11 or 12 i believe. Well she would not make it to the litter box either so we would find chocolate suprises all around the house but it was not luqi poo. We ended up having to put her down because of the combined problems. I hope the best with your problem, the fact that its not soild has me thinking that there may be something wrong with him though, good luck.

UPDATE on Dude. We took him to the vet, he was dehydrated and has diarrhea. We have to give him a pill and keep more water bowls out. He's already doing a lot better and he loves being in our backyard all day. He has nice grass to lay in and the other 2 cats to keep him company. We did have to have some tests run, but he should be A-OK for awhile.
