engine swap, v-6 to the 5.0

Hey. I know alot of the newer guys dont know me too well, if at all. I have been around since the ez board days. I still lurk from time to time, and know I need to post more. believe me, I will be.

I'm going to do this swap right, and with as many new parts as possible. I already have the 87 mustang short block, but am lacking everything else. Here is the list off of the top of my head so far. Oh and I have an h-pipe and computer... I also have that turbo mark 7 rear axle, I'm still undecided when I'm gonna get that out of storage and throw it in.

e7te heads
headers
upper and lower intake with throttle body
new sensors, (tab/tad? and map as well as most others...)
19lb fuel injectors
ho cam
evp/egr sensors
Wiring harness, 86-88 cougar and maybe 86-91 crown vic...
And thats all I can think of that I really need.

All the accessories,
Oil pump, oil filter/pump, water pump, new rad(mine leaks some), fuel line(out of a crown vic, this part I'm gonna have to explain later), dist, and I'm sure alot of stuff I'm leaving out.

A whole gasket set, as well as all seals, oh and a new flywheel/torque converter with higher stall and maybe a shift kit if I can swing it.

I plan on leaving everything in the engine bay the way it is, hopefully. I'm going to hack together both wiring harnesses, mostly because I think it will be cheaper. I got time, I don't have quite as much money. The crown vic fuel lines should make it so that I can put the intake on backwards, as well as being able to leave the battery tray on the opposite side along with the starter solenoid and all that jazz. I'm still stuck as far as which accessory brackets to use. I think I can finesse the stock 5.0 configuration in there, I dont plan on running the ac, and I may go with an electric water pump/fan, just because it will entertain me. Those are my thoughts thus far. Anyone have any light to shed on it? anyone swap one in facing the wrong way yet? I'll be glad for any criticizem.

I also may throw in manual power steering, then i'll end up with just alt smog pump (big maybe, as long as no one is looking...) crank and idler arm. alot of this is just so I could say I did. I do that alot.

But basically, I have the block (brand new rebuild, not j/y motor) and the car, oh and my gray 86 5.0, and my black 86 5.0 are long gone. As much as this hurts me, its the only way to go.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

the crown vic fuel rail inlet/outlet is in the same location as the fox cars. ;)  the computer mounts above the brake pedal, and if you're going to spend money on an electric water pump ($200+), you might as put that towards doing a more factory look installation.

well, just an update, I'm probably not going to be able to make it to the junk yard this weekend. my band is playing two shows today, and my friend with the truck that I need cant help me today. I'm just wondering how well a full Lincoln mark 7 engine will fit in the trunk of a zx2.....

Um no it doesn't... it comes in the driver front, not the passenger front.

Hey scott. Yeah. Ive been lurking around mostly. But I'm still here. I now work about 65 hours a week and no longer have my own computer/internet... It sucks.

Also, engine swap ended up a no go. I ended up getting pulled over and found out I have a warrent out for a ticket I got 4 years ago a forgot about... Yeah. I'm saving up 1200 to pay it off first. Also I'm going to look for a 86 thunder bird or cougar with the 5.0 as a start...
