Garden Tip June 30, 2007, 12:36:58 PM Seems like this tip is getting to be lost because not many people garden anymore.Dont forget to sucker your tomato plants. A sucker is found growing between the main stalk of the plant and a branching limb. You will find them everywhere on the plant and they grow HUGE. 95 chances out of a 100, you will never see a bloom on these suckers and they only take away from the rest of the plant and nutrients that could go to the fruit.see pic below on how to find a sucker...........just snap them off, dont twist. Its best to get at the suckers early in the game like when the blooms are on or before tomatos start to appear. the plant will continue to produce suckers so keep your eyes peeled while you weed and hoe.
