Yep, the axle dampers are the same between cars. In fact, a lot of parts stores will only list the dampers for Mustangs, but they are identical to those used on the T-Bird/Cougar.

the thunderbird/cougar quads are longer. then the mustang units.

ive swapped bird ones into the stang with no binding but the stang units maybe a hair short for a stock height cougar bird

That's true sleeper. When I installed my IRS setup, the rear brackets were supposed to line up with the quad shock bracket holes. They didn't come close. When the mustang guys did their swaps, they could reuse those holes.

That's due to the rear frame rails being different, and the brackets attached to them, AND the distance between the mounting brackes on the rear axles themselves...and all of those have nothing to do with the actual quad shocks. The quads are the same between the cars. You cannot buy a Cougar- or T-Bird-specific quad anymore. They're only listed for Mustangs. And if you do find a store that lists them for our cars (which is a miracle), that shock will cross-reference to a Mustang.

The quad shocks are not under tension like a normal shock. You can push or pull on them to whatever length you need, and they just stay. If binding is an issue...flip the shock around. That usually solves the problem.

I installed Monroe gas matic quad shocks, (32242), on my 87 TC with no problems.
