trans crossmember May 24, 2007, 02:10:06 PM in these next couple day im gonna make my cat dual exhaust. i currently have a single hump crossmember in. and from what ive heard, i need a double cossmember of a mustang. ive gone to two junkyards and neither have any crossmembers from a fox stang. can the single one be modified to where that 1/2 hump is enlarged to be big enough to work? or will that not be safe? i dont wanna build a death trap, but im anxious do have true duals and am running out of places to buy a double hump x-member.thanks,keith Quote Selected
trans crossmember Reply #1 – May 24, 2007, 03:26:39 PM My current car had the dual hump from the factory for some odd reason. My old V6 had the single. Try looking for V8 87-88 Cats and birds at the yards as well. You might get lucky. Quote Selected
trans crossmember Reply #2 – May 24, 2007, 03:35:01 PM Some Cougars and T-Birds had them, some didn't...seems to be no rhyme or reason (gee, there's a shock LOL). A lot of people have run dual exhaust with a single-hump crossmember...it all depends on the size of the pipes (H-, X-, etc.). Quote Selected
trans crossmember Reply #3 – May 24, 2007, 04:43:24 PM Be careful buying used ones, The connection tubes like to rust from the inside out. I found out the hard way from one I bought on E-bay. I would suggest just buying a new one from Ford Racing. Quote Selected

trans crossmember Reply #5 – May 24, 2007, 07:13:30 PM You can find them on everything from 83 to 88 cars.. My 83 has a double hump. my 88 v6 car does not.. Quote Selected
trans crossmember Reply #6 – May 24, 2007, 07:19:16 PM i looked at 2 cougars there, and 86 5.0 and a 87 5.0, both had single. if what eric siad is true, i might try just to run the exhaust through that half hump thing. is only 2.5 inch, so its not much bigger then stock. so hopefully everything will work.
