351w swap with column shift?

I can't seem to sell this 351w I have. So now I am considering putting it in my 80 t-bird. I am just kicking the idea around. Has anybody done a 351w swap and kept the column shifter? If so, what headers did you use?

I wouldn't do it personally. the 9.5" deck height compared to the 8.2" of the smaller motors, I doubt you could make it fit. even the stock mustang headers have a dimple for the colum shifter.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

That's kinda what I've gathered. It might be too much trouble. I saw a cheap 65 289 that I might get instead. That should be a straight swap for my 255.

Do it, but put a 5 speed in it. No linkage in the way. No header clearance issues. Just use a set of the Fox 5.8 swap headers.

Well, that'd be the opposite of cheap and easy ;)

It currently has a bench seat and a very nice interior. I don't really want to screw with a floor shift conversion.

Just cut a hole in the floor with some tin snips and get a plastic box to glue to the underside of the carpet.

My t-5 was probably the best modification I ever made , to any car I've owned. car felt twice as fast, got better gas mileage, and turned it into a completely different car. I did my swap for $450, start to finish. ill bet with a good aod to sell, you could get $1-200 out of it. for the $250, you will be impressed, I promise

Beyond the height difference would be the width difference.  If you are using stock manifolds...Ill bet i would work...obviously use a carbed setup should also fit under the hood unless you go crazy with a huge intake...

Go for it...be different.

Didn't know you were selling a 351. What were you asking?

Well, I only had it on craigslist. I didn't try listing it on here. It's a 351w "5.8 HO" out of a 1986 F150. It ran great when I pulled it, and didn't make any smoke or noises. I pulled it about 12 years ago, and it's sat in the garage ever since. It still turns over, but that's all I know about it any more. It probably needs gone through and checked out by now. I was asking $450 obo. I really don't know what they are worth. I just know I've seen people asking that much and more for cores around here. Here's the CL ad with the greasy pictures.
