Chuck, what differential is that inside that 7.5? It sure doesn't look like the one I just took outta my car (and I don't remember what the T/L diff looked like in my old Sport)

That's just a std TL diff.  That 7.5 in the pic is from an '84 5.0 Mustang.  It resides in the '80 Z7 at the moment.  The 6.75" rear above it is the stock one from the Zephyr, which was originally a 2.3L car.

Im pretty sure my 81 6 cyl auto Fairmont has a 7.5. Though the 200 was a bit grunty than the 2.3 was, Im sure it would have broken a 6.75 a lot easier than a 2.3.

I defiantly wouldn’t buy it for my bird Fila. 8.8's are to easy to come by and cheep.
And as for telling him why. That’s none of his business, I would just say "not interested" and let it die into memories with the exception of a mental note to self that the guy is full of shiznit, and to be skeptical of what else he says.

Why I say that is because if the rear was in the car when he got it and he's just passing on what he was told it was then it's a mistake, mistakes happen.
But you mention he told you he did the work on this rear, adding the TracLock and all. If that’s the case he would have to KNOW what rear it is, meaning he is flat out lying to you about either what rear it is or him doing the work.

Walk away and don't trust a word he says.

The person who's rear this car in DID NOT do any work the the rear axle and DID NOT claim to.  This thread is finished.
