Fuel pump swap... complications. April 20, 2007, 03:55:12 PM The pics speak for themselves. I wasnt kidding in the other thread when I said the car shredded itself. So what now? Of course that bolt is just spinning now cause the stupid #^#%& threaded bolt holder clip thing they used is just freely spinning as it wishes shredding my car to pieces. %^#$&*$*($^%^ Quote Selected

Fuel pump swap... complications. Reply #2 – April 20, 2007, 06:34:40 PM Get a small pair of vice grips to hold it on the inside,or,get a cutoff wheel and cut the bolt and the add a new bolt and nut.Just a couple of ideas. Quote Selected
Fuel pump swap... complications. Reply #3 – April 20, 2007, 06:35:15 PM Oh,maybe you could get someone to tack the inner nut down. Quote Selected
Fuel pump swap... complications. Reply #4 – April 20, 2007, 08:37:32 PM Vice grips couldnt hold that thing down at all. We just cut the bolt off. I think my dad might be able to weld the box back up but I cant be sure on that. Its really torn up bad. Hopefully if he can he can weld the bolt holder down to it or weld a nut in there. I did get the tank out though... and look what I found inside, I could have sworn the pump had never been changed in this car. This is the only thing I could find on this pump, Im guessing its a long discontinued model.http://forums.stangnet.com/showthread.php?t=433558 Quote Selected
Fuel pump swap... complications. Reply #5 – April 20, 2007, 09:26:40 PM Worst case scenario I've eliminated using the boxes by using a couple pieces of threaded rod going up thru the trunk floor and a flat piece of steel to spread out the weight. (Because you know if the fuel tank strap mount boxes are that way, the trunk floor might not be far behind.) I've done two different cars that way and didn't have a problem. Quote Selected
Fuel pump swap... complications. Reply #6 – April 20, 2007, 10:35:15 PM So do you think some long bolts would work? Quote Selected
Fuel pump swap... complications. Reply #7 – April 20, 2007, 11:08:22 PM its been done on a lincoln like mine so i think you can do it Quote Selected
Fuel pump swap... complications. Reply #8 – April 21, 2007, 07:04:13 AM Long bolts might not cut it if you're going through the trunk floor, but a 4-ft piece of threaded rod and 4 nuts and some washers will be an ample amount to do both straps. Quote Selected
Fuel pump swap... complications. Reply #9 – April 21, 2007, 10:17:07 AM 4 feet? How do you do it with that much rod? I only need to do the drivers side. The passengers side is fine. Quote Selected
Fuel pump swap... complications. Reply #10 – April 21, 2007, 12:52:38 PM Too much impact wrench with no PB Blaster on the bolt.... Quote Selected
Fuel pump swap... complications. Reply #11 – April 21, 2007, 01:40:52 PM I stuck a wire bush on a die grinder up in the hole beside of it and cleaned my bolts. Then a generous amount of PB. Bolts came out with a regular wrench. Quote Selected
Fuel pump swap... complications. Reply #12 – April 21, 2007, 01:51:04 PM Yeah, I used plenty of PB... the bolt was coming good until the last inch or so of thread and just stopped right there... too much rust buildup on it I guess. I already have the hole drilled in the trunk. I just need a ride up to the hardware store to get a bolt and nut and some washers. Ill have to find a piece of metal to brace it inside and take some of the weight. Quote Selected
Fuel pump swap... complications. Reply #13 – April 21, 2007, 03:24:57 PM End of the bolt looks mighty dry to me... That's where you need it, not on the threads already exposed... Quote Selected
Fuel pump swap... complications. Reply #14 – April 21, 2007, 06:00:41 PM Well its all fixed now, bolt through the trunk is holding it well. Ive got a new problem now, passenger side ler is touching the driveshaft :/ Quote Selected
