Oil everywhere..... February 09, 2007, 02:41:25 PM I know its not uncommon for the 5.0 to drink oil but I had to replace 3 quarts the other day (about 2,000 miles since oil change). I replaced the air filter when I first bought the car in June last year (hardly driven til making it the daily driver last month) and its already dirty. I replaced the breather filter last month and i'm seeing brown already (10-15%). The exhaust from the tailpipe hits the ground and it makes the ground slippery (?oil in exhaust?). There have been obvious issues with this car leaking all kinds of fluid because there is oil and grease on EVERYTHING. The exhaust is practically caked with burnt stuff. Any hints as to why the car seems to drink gas so much? I'm going to upgrade to 10W-40. The engine runs like a horse even though there are obvious signs of neglect. Quote Selected

Oil everywhere..... Reply #2 – February 09, 2007, 04:57:58 PM sounds like a good idea. Engine in or out? Quote Selected
Oil everywhere..... Reply #3 – February 09, 2007, 05:24:49 PM Doing it with the engine in the car will at least be able to help you find the leaks. If you have the engine out, regasket or rebuild it. Quote Selected
Oil everywhere..... Reply #5 – February 09, 2007, 09:26:17 PM Sounds like you got your hands full. A tune-up (plugs, wires, cap, timing, etc.) would be a great place to go after cleaning off the crud. Depends what your weather is like right now, but some old rags, a putty knife, and some Simple Green (full strength) would go a long way. You may also want to invest in a bottle of Techron or Sea Foam and add it to your fuel tank on your next fill up. Quote Selected
Oil everywhere..... Reply #6 – February 09, 2007, 09:46:10 PM You could have a big rear main leak. That would explain all the oil under the car. Try cleaning it and then drive it to see where it's comming from. Quote Selected
Oil everywhere..... Reply #7 – February 09, 2007, 11:26:24 PM i was fine with presure washing until you mentioned the slickness of the exhaust stain.First off, do a compression test. You may have worn rings. Quote Selected
Oil everywhere..... Reply #8 – February 09, 2007, 11:37:55 PM sounds like rear main seal, under pressure will flow back to exhaust system and cook. have you pulled a spark plug to read it, sooty or oil deposit on plug is ring blowby and would explain exhaust leakage. doing a cylinder pressure test is a great suggestion. will tell you how far to go if a rebuild is necessary or just a gasket job Quote Selected
Oil everywhere..... Reply #9 – March 03, 2007, 02:54:12 PM cool beans. compression test is high on the list now. spark plugs are fine, but need to check the timing. Many other issues are leading to off timing so thats first for this afternoon. Quote Selected
