street racing project

hey guys, im doing my final project for a comp. class and my topic is an informative/pusuasive. "keep racing on the track" type project. i need to be creative it isnt just a paper. its a whoel presentation. so im gunna make a movie, write a brief essay, and do an informal set of "interviews" using storys of people getting hurt drag racing on the street. everyone has herd at least one story of someone getting killed or something like that. so if anyone would like to share anything i can use in my paper that would be huge. thanks guys.

I know where I live they have street races and have money on it. I know some of the guys personaly.

But the main thing is not everyone has access to a track. I know thats a py reason to race on the street. But when you have nothing but corn fields as far as the eye can see you have plenty of room to race out side of the city limits.

Now my point about not having access to a track. There have been several times they tried to build a race track here and it was shot down by the local becasue it would bring in the wrong crowd was there major concern. But they were the same people that were saying that the street raceing was getting out of hand. They shot this guy down 4 times before a community 45min from here took the idea and ran with it. Now that he has been in the legal system for over 4 years he has no money to build the track.

So its back to square 1 no place to run the cars but on the street.

They also had SCCA events here but the locals once again said it was bringing the wrong crowds to the area. So they have been run out of town also.

So in short I have to drive at minimun 2 hours to the closest drag strip and over 4 hours to road corse. If the local want to help the problem start with giving the kids somewhere to go and get it out of there sytem and do it under safe conditions.

Talk about how bad most roads are.  If you hit a pothole at drag speed, you could mess up bad, especially with all the inexperienced kids racing too.  The strips have high standards of mantaining the surface, unlike the goverment.  Get a video of a car blowing a tire or something like that.

i should have explained haha....i liv ein michigan and go to woodward ave. every weekend to run my mustang.... i am not turning in a final project condoning street racing tho if you gte my drift. i cant right a paper about that. not enough info and it is not a good topic to give to a profesor. what i do however disagree is people that good to the local race sites in around here with 9 second cars. sure they are can be streetable. but turning 800 hp lose on the street main road with people aruond is irresponsible. there is no place for that much power on the street. i mean i bring my 13 second mustang down and have some fun but it is just stop to maybe 60 mph and shut them down. yes there are shutdown airports and bus stations around here that the big dawgs play at and trhow big money. but when there are 2 tracks 45 minuts away those cars should not be on the street. and i no of several peopl how have trashed cars or severly hurt somebody street racing. so some kind of responsiblity has to be there. it is the spirtit of the law vs. the letter of the law. if you are at an abandond air port. there are no innocent bystanders. everyone there signed up for whatever happens. so i have no problem.

Check the minot daily news a kid died there a few years ago, had a strange name tho can't remember it.  Also someone on a crotch rocket went over a freeway interchange here last year and fell like 3 or 4 stories to I-29.  I don't know if he was racing, though he was going too fast.
