what tranny did the mustang have?

i believe its like the turbo coupes

Auto: 3.55

manual 3.73

8.8 would be better off

mustang is most likely a 2.73:1 and the 87 7.5" tbird rear probley has 3.27:1 to make up for the tastic power of the 6cylinder.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

depending on options, trans, and location of vehicle build.
Mustangs could have 2.73, 3.08 or 3.55.

whats the axle tag say, post it and somebody, or myself will decript it for you. im almost positive its a 2.73 tho, that was the standard equiptment with a manual car, unless they got the optional 3.08. it was an automatic, probley a 3.27, but i usualy see manual mustangs, so im asuming thats what it is.

Best way to tell is if the car is near you jack it up and roll the tire see how many times the drive/shaft goes around.

To my knowledge no 5.0 Stang ever got a 3.55 gear at the factory... The 5 speeds are 2.73 or 3.08, the 3.27 was available with auto, but you don't often see them...
