New pics of the Bird

I got the new snowflakes on the car!  It took me all day yesterday to get the tire center here on base to get my tires and mount them for me.  I showed up at 7am with the wheels in the back of the pickup, went inside and paid for the tires ($76 each) and then went around back to unload the wheels for the guy.  He starts trying to mount one of them, but it wont fit. So the guy gets pissed off and pulls the tire back off, throws it on the ground in front of me, glares at ME, and then asks me if I know what size the wheels are.  Even after I told him they are 16" he still measured it himself, then he asks me "Well then why did you order 15" tires?"  Mini argument ensues.  And I win after I produce the order form to show that I ordered 245/50-16s.  But for some reason they shipped 215/60-15s.

So I go back inside with the lady that ordered them, she gets out one of the flyers that had the tires on them.  Gets the correct product number and calls the warehouse again.  They said they would ship the correct ones out right away and they should be up before 2pm.  Well this flyer she pulled the new product code from showed the 245/50s as being $116 instead of $76.  I told her I still had the flyer from before and can prove that it was advertised as $76, she told me to bring it in when I picked up the tires otherwise they would have to charge me the new price.

Well to make a long story short (TOO LATE) I went back at 3:30 to pick up the tires with my flyer.  They talked to the manager and decided that I was one luck .  The price for these tires is normally $136 from them, other places around town go as high as $168 a piece.  And I got them for $76.  On top of the sale price they had a 10% off deal going.  Free mounting and balancing, no sales tax because its a government facility.  So depending on who's price you use for the tires, I got at LEAST a 50% discount.

Psh... Minot is nothing.  I was born in Grand Forks and was there in 97 when we got hit by a blizzard that knocked out the power for three days (it was -50ºF outside) and then the Red Rived flooded the town.

Besides, they can only PCS you if you are active duty.  Im a civilian. ;)

Yeah, the sunroof and vent windows are probably my favorite feature on my Bird.
And no, I haven't taken it off any sweet jumps yet.

You'll have to let me know how you like those tires. I love them on my 'Bird.

So far Im loving them too, the car really feels like its sticking to the road better.  I guess that 3/4" of sidewall that got removed compared to my old tires really makes a difference.  Hopefully they will work as well on snow.

My only major problem is that because they are wider now I have a lot more dirt and mud being thrown up the side of my car around the wheel well.  Ive seen a couple Birds with mud flaps on them, is there a place to buy them or do I just have to check the junkyards?

Also, I was wondering how those GTO headlight covers stay attached to the headlight bezzel?  I was thinking about getting some of those for my car too.

I would check e-bay or junk yards. Maybe do a google search and see if you have any luck.

The have little clips that attach to the inside of the headlight bucket with two sided tape, and the covers clip into them. I have had them on the car for 7 or 8 years now and never had a problem with them. Summit Racing carries them. They are GTS though, not GTO, a lot of people get that wrong.
