Dead Cylinder cont. July 21, 2006, 09:16:07 PM Alrite, I got a good friend to check out the car to save a shiznit load on the labor. At first I had somebody tell me that one of my spark plugs were fouled in oil and that unfortunately was what is causing the dead cylinder. My good friend told me that he thinks this mechanic is full of it because the car is missing and the cylinder isn't dead per say. Also, the car's exhaust isn't passing any oil and doesn't smoke when the throttle is really pushed on, so he says he's gotta see the oil soaked plug with his own eyes to believe it. He thinks it may be the fuel injector?! Any ideas, has anybody had this problem? Check the forum a few pages back to see the history of m y '88 Cougar 3.8L and the replies. Dead Cylinder cont. Reply #1 – July 21, 2006, 09:26:18 PM First start with a compression test. If it passes then put new plugs and wire in it... No fix? or it fails soon after... then you may have a busted injector on that cylinder. Also did they mistake the oil fouled plug for a fuel fouled? Quote Selected
Dead Cylinder cont. Reply #2 – July 22, 2006, 08:04:56 AM it was oil so he says, i guess that would mean that oil is getting pushed through the cylinder, but my friend says that he really doubts that is the case due to the fact that my engine isn't running that bad and that there's nothing comming out my exhaust. I'll let everyone know how it goes by monday. thanks Quote Selected
