Remanufactured Engine July 06, 2006, 06:04:36 PM I recently found out my '88 Cougar has a dead cylinder and instead of pumping money into it :disappoin , I was looking to throw a remanufactured engine into a '96 Dodge Intrepid. The engine size is a 3.6 L V6. I'm from Long Island and I was looking to see if anybody knows where a good reliable place could be found in the area. I know it i'd be letting my Cougar down, but i'm a college student and i just don't have the money to be pumping into a car with 160K miles with RWD, being that i go to school up in Oneonta (f*cking snow). Its unfortunately that the labor is more than the actualy parts, but if i could pick up a cheap engine, i could just pay a friend to drop in the engine. What type of prices will i be looking at for a remanufactured engine? I know i'll be taking a risk Quote Selected
Remanufactured Engine Reply #1 – July 06, 2006, 06:31:43 PM Heh. Off the top of my head, the first place I looked was at Jasper Reman. Engines. Make sure you're sitting down (why wouldn't you be?). Here's the price they quoted for the 3.5L in a '96 intrepid.$3545.00And here's a rough estimate on the blue book private party value of the car:$3,155.00Ehhh, it looks like you're in quite a jam. Remanufactured Engine Reply #2 – July 07, 2006, 07:30:35 AM My long island neighbor, as Ifixyawata stated it does not look worth it. So I guess you have two choices buy a new car or if your friends willing to do it most bone yards around here give you a 30 day warranty on used engines. But you’re taking a chance besides for it being a headache to replace the engine, if buy chance they give you a bad motor you still have to take the bad one out and exchange it. So you’re doing twice. And I don’t like bone yard motors. But if you go that route they usually cost about $500-$800 bucks. Quote Selected
Remanufactured Engine Reply #3 – July 07, 2006, 09:11:55 AM Yes, the junkyard engine lotto is one way to go. Hell, I know around here at least there are TONS of Intrepids in the junkyard. I guess that's a good and a bad thing all at once. During CJ a couple years ago, a few folks successfully pulled off a parking lot engine swap. WITH a 2.3 that'd been sitting on a junkyard shelf for 10 years no less, so there's a chance you'll find a good motor. Quote Selected
