Big Time Electrical Problems July 03, 2006, 09:05:45 PM Ok Im almost at my wits end with this cougar... The problems are, turn signals flash real slow. The wipers will sweep the window once, and stop working, when I turn on the ignition the parking lights come on, the blower motor on the a/c stops blowing when the headlights are on. The cluster only lights up the speedometer portion, the fuel guage reads full when i know the tank is near empty, and the temp pegs at hot, then goes back to normal. I unplugged the cluster, a/c harness, the wiper relay in the fuse panel, and its still acting up...I replaced the alt, ignition switch, starter relay, and battery What else is left on this beast help please Quote Selected
Big Time Electrical Problems Reply #1 – July 03, 2006, 09:15:17 PM Have you had the dash out recently? Heater core change? When did the problems start? One day or hit and miss for a period of time then progresivly worse? What year of car anyway?................................................................................... Honestly it sounds like a grounding problem with dash harness. Possibly a problem with the engine block not being grounded properly to the frame. Have you had the engine out recently? Quote Selected

Big Time Electrical Problems Reply #5 – July 04, 2006, 06:15:55 AM Get a hold of a voltmeter. With the lights and fan on then measure from battery minus to engine block, to the chassis fender and firewall, to dash ground. If it shows any potential differance, like more than 1 volt drop, then you've got to figure out where and why. Most any bad connection eating the power will get hot.Could also be the fusable link is burned through a bit.Are your connections clean? I've seen mechanics connect wires with more oil and grease than youv'e got in the sump.Another trick is to wiggle everything, when you hit the right spot all kinds of things happen. Quote Selected
Big Time Electrical Problems Reply #6 – July 04, 2006, 07:54:51 AM lets see... i had the cluster out a couple of times trying to figure out why AMP light was lit. (Thats not lit anymore) Engine has never been out. Its hard to say when the problem started the car just sits, and i work on it from time to time. Im going to check for corrosion, and all the connections are clean and tight. I checked my links before they were all good as far as i Know but will check again.. i'll keep u all informed**UPDATE** I went out to check the battery ground, and saw a small amount of corrosion on the terminal. The battery is brand new, less than a week old. The casing on the ground wire is cracked and i saw some green corrosion on it too.. so im going to put it up in the air and check the other end. Also this is new.... i had the car running, and turned the key past the start position, and the starter didnt grind? I never did it before but i know that normally if you do that its supposed to grind is that another problem i need to figure out?*** finished ***It was a ground wire behind where the radio is located. Dont remember taking it off but there it was. everything is in order now Thanks guys! Quote Selected
