Tranny Swap June 12, 2006, 04:37:51 PM Okay I'm sure this has been touched upon a million times in these threads, but I want mad specific details. I currently have a 87 T-bird that is automatic. I want to rip out the automatic transmission and put in a 5-speed manual. Alot of my friends were telling me to get a T-5 transmission but to me it means nothing. I have the stock 3.6L v6 in my car but I want to also change that when it dies to a big v8. Now what is the trans I should put into my car, how hard is it to do and what would it cost to have done? Also, would I need to get a different transmission when I put the v8 in the car? Any amount of information about this would be very helpful. Quote Selected
Tranny Swap Reply #1 – June 12, 2006, 05:08:26 PM First thing you need to do is check out coolcats.net in the tech section. A 87 3.8 flywheel balance is unknown for a t-5 application at this time. For now, you will mainly want to check out the H.O. swap in the coolcats site. Then check out the t-5 for the v-8's. There is lots of information there and even more research needs to be done. Any questions or information that you dont under stand, feel free to ask us here. Quote Selected
