The 401 is here!

That's right sports fans! I got the key to my project today. A standard bore, complete, AMC 401. Came with dog-leg heads with screw-on rocker studs, and a factory 4Bbl intake too! It was running when the guy pulled it, there is no measurable bore taper and no ridge at the top. She seems to be in real good shape! The BIG key though was the Jeep T176 bellhousing. It will bolt the 401 up to my T5 ouy of 87 TC with a 3.97 1st gear and allow the whole shebang to fit into "Thunderstruck" (about 2800# estimated race weight with the 401) with a 3.73 posi. Fast? It will be! :flip: :flip:

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.
