Boiling the balonies!

Let's hear about those times you just can't resist lighting them up...

I was going into work the other day, taking this back route that I occasionally go. At one part of the road, you come up to a T intersection going into a long straight stretch. When I was on there the other day, it had rained the night before, and right before the stop sign at the intersection there was some water running across the road in an area just about 2 feet wide. As soon as I saw it, I thought "water box" and smiled. I rolled through the water and stopped at the stop sign. Nobody behind me, nobody coming in either direction on the road I was pulling onto, so I couldn't help it. Revved it a bit and honestly didn't even dump the clutch, let it out normally and I went out into the road sideways like this :D  Even though the car had a boost leak and I was only getting about 14 psi it spun em like it was nothing. Unfortunately I had to let off or I woulda gone off the other side of the road into the gravel...but it was fun, that's for sure!

Back when I was 16 and had my Trans Am I used to take carloads of friends to an abandoned shopping mall and do donuts during the high school lunch hour. The lot was about two dozen acres in size, fully paved, level, and had a coat of sand from winter clearing. Oh, the fun I had - picture skipping across the lot at about 50, cutting the wheel hard, and nailing it. I left some very interesting marks in the pavement...

My most dramatic tire-spinning experience was in the '66 Galaxie 500 (390 4-bbl/C6/Traction-lock). One time I came onto it and the engine mount broke. The engine nearly rolling onto its side resulted in the throttle linkage jamming at WOT. In addition, the shifter linkage all came apart. There I was, a 17-year-old, driving a 4000 pound Galaxie stuck at WOT, stuck in gear, and with four wheel, non-power-assisted drum brakes. I eventually thought of turning the car off, but not before achieving about 100MPH with glowing brake drums...

My '91 V6 'Bird would spin the right rear tire all day long - not so much a result of power, but of very poor traction. If there was a slight incline I'd simply have to punch it and the right rear would light up - it'd spin so fast that the car would start rolling backward. It certainly impressed the guys in the GM training course that I carpooled with :hick: One time the road was damp and I punched it coming out of a parking lot, and the tire spun for about 100 yards up the road. As much as I hated that car, there were times I loved it...

Funny, though: Since the Cougar (wrecked in '99) I have had no desire to spin my tires (I used to brakeburn the Coug all the time). Any time I spun the wheels in my Sport or the current '88 has been by accident. I recon that'll change when I do the engine up...

Today while taking an on ramp to get on a highway I downshifted to fourth at about 60mph.  The ol 3.8 actually barked the tire!  I was so happy to have heard it I took it up to what I'm guessing was about 125mph.  Smooth as silk since I cut the wire to the VSS to the computer like Carm had said.
