Truck troubles...

never fails, as soon as my truck is running good for a spell it s the bed...maybe you guys can help. It Won't start, starter may drag, then all I get is a click. I noticed this 2 weeks ago. I replaced the solnoid (spelled wrong) with a NAPA special *I broke it today...cheesey plastic compared to what my work sells*...it still clicked...I got underneath and smacked the starter with an object...it fired and drove fine for a few days...then did the same...repeated this all week...then sunday is didn't help to smack it. I changed the starter. it worked good till this morning...now all I get is click again. I tried another battery...CLICK!!!

Truck:'92 F150 4.9 I6, T-18 4speed...looks like a mazda style starter

it has one small wire and a large wire *both red* running to the top of the starter. and a black one connected to one of the bolts that are holding the starter in...seems odd...could that be the problem?

Could a bad motor or frame ground be the problem? Clean up the ground points first since it doesn't cost anything.

that was exactly what it was...they grounded the starter to the aluminum case of the starter...I moved it...works like a champ
