electrical....all or nothing

on my 1987 mercury cougar, the windows, moon roof, radio, clock, and windshield wipers all don't work.  however, once in a blue moon while i'm driving, they'll all start working at once, and then stop again.  i've been told that this might be a short, but no one knows for sure.  anyone have any idea on what it may be and how to fix it?

just unclip your old one, clip on the new one. If that dosent fix it, bring it back to auto hole.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.
