3.27 gears

iis it unusual to find 3.27 gears in an 87 t-bird that originally had a 3.8 v6. The tag on the bach of the rear end deffinatly says that it is 3.27? and the sticker in the door has a 5 in the axel location, from info i have researched that tells me it is a 3.27 gear set.

Actually it says  3 . 27 75 7C13, there is no L or C its just a dot in that location? who knows! I would imagine that the door code is correct though.

My '84 Cougar LS 3.8 AOD has an open 3.27.  Don't know if it came with a towing package.

I used the gears out of an '87 V6 'Bird in my '87 Sport when I replaced the 3.08's with 3.27's (Normally I wouldn't have bothered with such a minor change but the whole rear end was being redone anyway - new axles, bearings, seals, etc, so I had the shop class do it as a project). The donor rear was an open one, I know this because when the junk yard sent the gears they sent the whole diff attached to the ring gear

All four of mine (yes, even the Marks) apparently have opens. Think I have three 3.27 rears and a 2.73 in the V8 T-bird.

My old v6 was a trak-lok equipped car with 3.27's.....It had 9 inch rear brakes though.  I thought that was a rather odd combo.

all 87 3.8L's got 3.27's

they put 3.27's in the rear of the 87's to help combat the extra weight they stuck on the 87's. Then in 88, they got 20 more horsepower, so they got 2.73's once again.
It's Gumby's fault.
