Boost Valve

I installed my Gillis valve last night.  I had it tuned up to about 18 psi for a while:tg: ...now i'm down to 15.  The problem is I have an automatic.  If you guys have a boost valve, let me know what you what psi you're runnin

I was runnin 18psi with an auto.  The swapped LA3 didn't like it too much as it would fall on its face when the overboost buzzer came on.  Doesn't matter much anymore, ditchin all that for a standalone that I have yet to decide on.....and a 5-speed.

On my old engine (IHI) I had it set at right around 17.5 psi...

On the new engine I haven't turned it up past 16 yet. Might go to 17 when I get the car back out, ultimately I'd like to try 20 once I put in a fuel pump.

Billy17f, Falling on it's face had nothing to do with the over boost buzzer or the LA3. Totally unrelated. More than likely you have an ignition system deficiency (bad wires, weak plug or coil, bad cap or rotor) or, if you still have a stock fuel pump, it may not be able to keep up with the add ed fuel requirements of higher boost.

Its Pete!

I agree, sounds like youre in need of a good tune up, using motorcraft plug wires, some autolite 764 plugs gapped at .032-.035, good cap and rotor, and checking your air and fuel filters
It's Gumby's fault.

Tune up it rather new, and I know that the overboost buzzer had nothing to do with it.  Just easier to associate that problem happening then and not at 15.5psi.

What it might be I don't know.  Air filter is new, fuel filter.....probably the original as is the fuel pump... might cause the problem but I don't see it being the problem due to the car's performance with stock computer.  Ran flawlessly with stock computer, had the 88 intercooler and brown tops.  That's it.  Doesn't make sense how it could run awesome with that setup, but then suck when LA3 and Big VAM were added.

Changing th efuel filter wouldn't hurt and it's cheap thrills.  Any chance of a hose or boost leak coming on at higher boost? There is an article on running fuel system diagnostics here: http://www.turbotbird.com/techinfo/Fuel_System/fuel_system_diagnostics.htm
Those test will find an under performing pump

Ok, setting the record straight.  Getting rid of EEC-IV in favor of a standalone whose likes have yet to be decided.  New fuel system to handle the massive power I'm looking for.  And MUCH more.

I'm just saying that I know there is a problem and I don't care much for finding it.  Right now its a once-a-week ride, unless its salty out.  So the lack of power, exhaust leak, rear end noise, no radio, and other problems are going to stay until the day I get the green light to dismantle the orange beast.  Of course this all must be backed with the new job I can't seem to land right now and the garage space I don't have.

Although you said you don't care much...when I first got my TC I threw in some rapidfire plugs I had laying around that I used to have in my Mustang. After I turned the boost up, it was blowing out the spark on the plugs and yeah, it was definitely falling on its face. Replaced them with some Autolites (gapped properly) and it was good to go.

Yeah, I understand, I have a new set of autolites in.  And running it at like quarter to half throttle it will take off....suggests a fuel problem.  Most of the stuff in my car now will make it's way into my girlfriend's TC.  Which lost a bearing I'm assuming and now is ceised up.

That car when I first brought it home was a mess and a half.  It would eat belts.  I discovered the previous owner who "took care of it", had the power steering pulley misaligned.  The alternator was bad so luckily I had a replacement.  The interior is shot, besides the seats.  The rear caliper bracket's bolts are frozen in the axel housing and it needs new loaded calipers and e-brake cables to pass inspection next year (unless I get a job where I can inspect cars).  And the idiots routed the hoses for the turbo incorrectly so it was making a pitiful 5-6lbs of boost.  I routed them the way they were supposed to be and right up to 10 lbs.  Also I BCS was installed but no power was running to it so I was tempted to run a power line to it and back to the switch so she could have the power of 15 lbs.  But it blew up before then.  Oh and it was in a nasty front end engagement so it needs a new radiator support, new front clip, and new brackets for the fog lights (which were replaced with those cheap, stupid washer fluid sprayer lights which were placed in the nostrils of the hood).

So I have to get that car going before spring rolls around because she is driving a Sundance.....puny car made punier by its automatic transmission, I had a Sundance with the same engine except it had a 5-speed and it was decent.  So in other words, wish me luck on finding a good paying job in a nice wealthy dealership so I can fix not only my car, but my girlfriends 88 $500 TC.  :D
