Jack stand question

Ok real quick question. I'm going to paint the break drums on my rear axle they are kinda crusty/rusty and I want to refinish them (don't worry I'm painting them back to factory black, not some gaudy red or yellow:hick: ). So can I put jack stands under the rear axle or should I put them under the rear sub frame. it'll probibly be sitting there like that for 2-3 days and I want to make sure that the axle tubs will be ok. The car is put away for the winter and it's sitting on the tires that came with it (wire wheels yo  ). Also where is the best place to put jackstands in the front? I'm thinking I might paint the front calipers when I'm done with the rear drums. Thanks for answering my stupid question:dunce:

thunderjet302,
I don't know why you couldn't put the jack stands under the rear axle.  I've done it several times, which is not to say it's the right thing to do, I've just never encountered any problems doing it.  It's about as solid of a support point as I can think of.  On the front, I'm not sure.  Maybe somebody else will chime in.  Good luck!

well, if you put them under the subframe and let the suspension hang you will have more room to work. other than that i cant see it making much of a differance.

I put'em under my axle on my truck when I rotate the tires, etc.  You should be fine.  I think the 'worry' is that something may bend and/or leak afterwords....

Thanks. Now I know where to put the jack and jack stands. I've lived in Chicago all my life and I've never heard of the pumpkin being called a "pigs head";)
