Engine stands

Well, my first significant car-related purchase with my first paycheck looks to be an engine stand, because my local friend can't store my 351W at his place anymore, and he needs the stand it's on now.

I am not done poking around for them, but I have two sets of options so far: a 750 lb. stand and a 1250 lb. stand from Advance, and three different stands from Summit. (1000 lb., 1250 lb., and a 2000 lb. folding stand.. but the folding stand isn't very likely)

According to this site, my 351W is only in the neighborhood of 525 lbs.. which means all of the above would work. But am I right in guessing a little extra weight capacity isn't a bad thing here? Should I skimp and get the cheap one or go for one of the bigger ones?

Also, I notice that Advance sells mounting kits that use Grade 5 bolts, and Summit's kits use Grade 8. Should I ignore the Grade 5 stuff, or is that fine for holding the average engine on the stand for a few months or longer? I don't see myself messing with anything much larger than the 351W. At some point the 300 I6 project will be on whatever stand I buy, too. Only way I'd get anything heavier is if I ever decided to pick up and work on a 60s car with a FE.. but in the next few years that's unlikely.

I'm not concerned about the cost. Everything listed above except the 2000 lb. folding stand is under $100. That'll leave me plenty of money to make it to the next payday. Think I still have $15 off a Summit order, if I go that route.

The 750 Lbs Should Work Fine But If The Engin Is Going To Be On It For A Long Period Of Time Go With The 1250 Lbs.as This One Has 2 Legs Versus 1 On The 750 Lbs They Are Good Stand's I Have The 750 Lbs ..i Used To Be A Store Manager For Advance And Sold Many Of Both Never Had One Returned..+ You Dont Half To Wait For Shiping...good Luck

yeah i bought a 1000 pund stand for $40 at harbor freight and a $300 engine puller that was on sale for
$150. My area rent a part wanted $100 to rent one. So I just bought it and figured it would come in handy, then two of my freinds had there engines professionally done and left me with the full cost. It kinda sucked but I was gonna milk them for $100 each cause it was a $300 peice. Eh all water under the bridge.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

Now that I think about it, I might go pick up a cheapo Advance 750 lb. and use that for short-term, and also wait a paycheck or two to get a 1000 lb. or 1250 lb. to hold my 351W long-term. Since at some point I'll probably want to pull the HO out of the '88 LSC and pull the SO out of the '88 T-bird, (assuming I keep them awhile) I'd need a second stand to put them on. I'm thinking the Summit 1250 lb., because I like the placement of the wheels on it. Looks a bit more stable to me than the others. (plus I can dig up and use that $15 off) Thanks for the feedback on this one.
