Repairing fuel line

In the course of pulling my engine I was forced to break off the fuel line just behind the filter.  Apparently the mechanic who installed my carb went a little psycho with the thread lock and the line refused to disengage from the filter.  I only lost 1 or 2 inches of line but I'll still need to fix it.  I've seen replacement lines and fittings and whatnot at my local auto parts store but they seem to call for soldering and that idea doesn't sit well with me.  What would you guys do?

solder does not stick well to steel lines. Im with army guy, use steel compresion fittings though and not brass, they split when you try to get them to seal on the steel line. check a local plumbing supply house in your area.
