Converting manual HVAC to Electronic HVAC controls

Hello everyone:

I have just purchased a 1987 Turbo Coupe which has the manual HVAC controls.

I am interested in converting this to the electronic controls but am not sure if this is possible.

Can anyone give me an idea of what is involved?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Best regards,

Dan

I think the hardest part is that you have to swap out the heater box that has the electronic actuators (flapper doors). I could be wrong, but I remember contemplating doing that years ago...

Thank you for the information. I was not sure if it was just a matter of changing the HVAC controls or if there was more than that involved.

Thank you for the information.

It's the HVAC plenum, the control head, the dash harness (which means you're also converting to full digital suck cluster (which means you're replacing the fuel level sending unit, the coolant temp sending unit and the oil pressure sensor) and adding some underhood wiring), the coolant temp cutout switch and it's inline tube.  You'll almost certainly also have to add autolamp (if you don't have it) and lamp-out warning (with it's associated module). Have fun!

BTW, ask me how I know.

It would probably be only slightly less onerous than finding a similar car with the EATC and acquiring it, then selling the current ride...

I went the opposite way, or tried to. Had a hell of a mess when it was done, and some shiznit still didn't work or work properly.

Huh??? I've seen Sports(all '88 had buttstuffog cluster) with EATC and probably two thirds of the Turbo Coupes had EATC... I searched out a low option TC for my swap as I have no use for the automatic bells and whistles...

Where are you going to find one of those harnesses?  That harness joins both the engine harness and the main engine compartment harness.  Sports are rare and very hard to find, and TurboCoupes are usually very specific, making them somewhat more common, but still fairly rare.  Any suitable dash harness you find for such a swap is most likely to be a V8 LX dash harness.  You may have to search a very long time to find the dash harness you need to keep the TC cluster, but add EATC; you may not. Still lots of work, in any case.  Is it worth it to you, THAT is really the only question that matters.

Thankyou everyone for all your comments.

Being that I am not very mechanically inclined I think that I will just keet the manual controls.

I appreciate all your feedback. Mechanical or electronic controls aside, this is one of my favourite cars and I cherish mine dearly.

Again thanks fr all the feedback.
