tire and wheel questions

Ok right now Im just playing with the idea of a 5 lug swap, mainly for the bigger selection of wheels. The wheels I have in mind right now are off of a mustang and Im pretty sure they are 17" bullitt wheels (have them at work on a top shelf!! ). Now I know there has been some members that have/do run them. My big question is what are you all running for tire size as thats the one part of the whole thing that I havent figured out yet. Im trying to figure out on top of the swap cost, rim cost, what tires are gonna add to the overall total. Mainly because of picking stuff up to get it road worthy, I need to see if its feasible to now or gather parts for a year and do next winter.

Thanks Vinny, I know your setup is probably pretty close to how the 5 lug would end up. On the other hand though, thru some reading last night I need to find out if they are 01-04 or 05-up as the backspacing/offset was changed slightly. At this point in research it looks like wheels and tires are gonna be the most pricy part. I wish I could remember who I read had a similar setup to what I'm thinking!

Wheel fitment on the front can be bear with off the self wheels, depending upon the 5 lug swap parts you've chosen, if the car is lowered and the desired front wheel width.

I'll recite my experience to give you a frame of reference:  My goal was to put a set of 9"wide front wheels (Bullet style), from an '94-'04 Mustang on a lowered car.  The tire size was 255.  To give you an idea of how much it was lowered, the top of the fender lip is 25 1/4" off the ground.

I had two sets spindles to work with:  The first was a Baer Tracker Cobra conversion set up.  It converted the stock fox 11" spindles to the SN95 sealed bearing and relocated the caliper mounts to use the SN95 caliper.  Nice set up. Easy swap as I had 11" brakes already.

Unfortunately, the hub assembly was located ~3/8" outboard.  This pushed the wheel outside the fender. No good!  An OTS 8" wheel would have been fine.  Too bad I already owned the wheels...

Next up was a 94/95 spindle.  This brought the hub in the 3/8" of an inch, which provided enough clearance to use the 9" wheel.  I did a little grinding on the K-member to clear the tires at full lock, but that was about it.

I do have caster camber plates and a bump steer kit from MM.  Both necessary for my application.  FYI, setting bump steer is a bit of challenge and does require kit from MM to get it right (as in more money...).

If you use a 96 and up spindle, it is my understanding the position of the hub will be comparable to the Baer conversion kit I used, likely limiting you to an 8" front rim.  I have no experience with this spindle.  There is a lot of info on the swap on Mustang forums and there is info on the MM site too.

If you'd like to see how my setup turned out, there are pics at the tail end of a thread I started called a Few upgrades.  Should be an easy search.

Good luck with your swap and wheel selection!

For the front the plan is 94-95 specific for the spindles as I dont really plan on lowering it and from research thats the direction for me to go.
