Header wrap question May 14, 2012, 03:04:36 PM I have equal length long tube headers (1 5/8th primaries), how much header wrap will it take to do a side? I searched around on the net and it looks like 50ft will do a side. Curious if anyone else has messed with this and can provide some insight.I got my car running this weekend after redoing the fuel system and now my starter is cooked. It will start on the first time but after running any length of time it becomes a dead. Cranking after it is heat soaked makes a horrible load buzzing and pulls the battery down to 2 volts. As much of a pain as it is to take the headers off, I believe I'll wrap at least that side when I change the starter. Thanks in advance. Quote Selected

Header wrap question Reply #2 – May 14, 2012, 04:30:36 PM Which starter do you have on the car? Factory or mini starter? If its the factory then there lies the problem. The mini starters are so much smaller and don't have the heat soak issues the old ones do. I have the mini's on both my cars and have installed countless numbers of them on street and track cars and have not seen the heat soak issue.Darren Quote Selected

Header wrap question Reply #4 – May 16, 2012, 05:15:13 PM Wow. Mine never got that hot. It may be a function of a weak solenoid/starter needing a rebuild or the wiring. I ran mine through the existing starter solenoid on the inner fender. Ran 4 Ga from the battery over to the BATT side on the inner fender mounted solenoid, 4 Ga from the same side as the BATT to the threaded stud on the starter solenoid, and 10 Ga from STARTER side of the inner fender mounted solenoid to the male spade connector on the starter solenoid. I would also suggest that you run a 4 Ga from the NEG of the battery to the frame and a 4 Ga from the frame over to the block of the motor. Keep all the cables away from pinch points and as far away from the exhaust as possible. I ran all of the 4 Ga with welding cable as the outer casing is much more durable than the pretty stuff in the car stereo shops and it costs a lot less. Also make sure you have a good battery in the car with a minimum of 800 CC.Darren Quote Selected
