86 electronic climate control head unit - buttons

Hi,

Have an 86 Tbird Elan with the electronic climate control. System was working fine, but after 5 years of sitting dormant, the buttons have become unresponsive. Press them and nothing happens. This had started a few years before parking the car, especially when trying to get "medium" fan by pressing "low"-"high" together, or switching from "auto" to another function.

Can the head unit be opened and the contacts on the backside of the buttons be cleaned? Anyone have any input on this?

Thank you for any help,
Tom

You could try opening up the unit and cleaning the switches under the buttons. If that fails you'll probably need a new head unit. I bought a spare working unit at a wreaking yard years ago in case mine ever s out.
88 Thunderbird LX: 306, Edelbrock Performer heads, Comp 266HR cam, Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, bunch of other stuff.

Hi tj302

I was planning on taking it apart and trying that, but was hoping someone had some input from experience on cleaning these.

It would suck if I frag it trying to clean it, but it doesn't work now, sooo...

Thanx,
Tom
