Bellhousing & T5 Match

I bought a bell housing on Ebay that's supposed to fit the fox body mustang GT for which everything I've read should fit the T5 from the t-bird turbo coupe. The problem is, it doesn't fit. The bell housing fits the 5.0 just as it should but I can't get the transmission front bearing retainer to fit (it looks really close and may fit with some maneuvering) but two of the four bolt holes do not line up at all. What gives? Is there an adapter plate? Getting really frustrated with this project.

E3ZR are the first four digits of the part number for a T5/5.0 bell for the 83-85 cars, and E6ZR is the number for a T5/5.0 bell for the 86-93 cars. Check your's and see what the number is. Anything else and it's not he right one. I sounds like you have one for the 79-82 cars that used the four speed trans, which if you ever plan on putting a Tremec in your car, could still come in handy.
88 TC 5speed, 168000+ miles, stock 2.3T long block, ported RFE6 exhaust, Evergreen T3 running 15#'s.
Up next: FMIC, fresh air intake, ported intakes, ported big valve head.

All T5's have the same bolt pattern.  If 2 of the holes don't line up, it's not a T5 bellhousing.  If I remember right, none of the holes line up between the SROD and the T5.  For certain the one for the SROD has a smaller bore for the bearing retainer.

XXWell I guess this answers my question. I was sold a bell housing for a transmission prior to '83. The second attached pic is the drivers side where you can see if I jack the transmission up about an inch the top left bolt holes should line up however the lower left is clearly way off the mark. Tom Renzo, who much do you want for one of your bell's?

That looks like the SROD bell housing to me, if so that bell  housing can be used to put a tremec 3550 in a fox so don't scap it

The transmission I have is a T-5 from a 1987 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe, so why won't this match up?

Because  it is for the SROD ford transmission not the T-5

 SROD  = single rail overdrive .. the early fox 4 speed

D9= '79  No T5's before '83.

As mentioned, it's an SROD bell, which doesn't have the same bolt pattern as a T5.  It does however have the same bolt pattern as a Tremec.
