T-5 tail shaft housing removal

I never have done this. What is the process for removing the tail shaft housing from my T-5? I plan on having the bushing and seal replaced. I actually have an extra housing that I'll have prepped and ready to swap out,but I want to swap them myself.

You can actually have the bushing and seal replaced WITHOUT removing the tailshaft housing.  There is a special tool made to pull the bushing out and press it back in.  Someone on here may have that tool and let you rent/borrow it.

But, if your replacement tailshaft housing is highly polished and free of casting lines, then I guess you have to remove it. :)

It's not free of casting lines.......yet. LOL. I was just going to let a pro install it. I want to pull the tail housing because there is a tiny leak there. Not cool.

Put the trans in neutral, and remove the shifter.

Drive the roll pin out of the offset lever (the piece that the shifter ball goes into).  There is a recess below it to allow the pin to come all the way out.  Remove the offset lever.  Save the spring and ball bearing that are in the bottom of it.

Under the car, remove the driveshaft, speedo cable, etc. Support the trans case, as the rear housing has the mount on it.  Unbolt the rear housing.

Sweet. Thanks Chuck. First I'll have the other hhousing bushing and seal replaced, then I'll tear into it.

Chuck, another question, can that cause any vibration? A bad bushing I mean?

My driveshaft bushing on my van went bad from a bad drive shaft. The yoke in the tail shaft would visbly move up and down. I had a terible vibration had to replaace the drive shaft bushing . Aftter the replacement the vibraion was still there rebalaced the shaft and eventualy replaced it I was told it was rusty on the inside?
