boarders books check bounced

Brittney has gotten a check from Boarders Books for book sales of hers.

She deposited the check and it bounced.

Before you say it,, yes it is the responsibility of the person who deposits the check to verify funds prior to cashing ect.  Brittney did not do this.

Boarders is in bankruptsy now but the check was issued to her prior to this bankruptsy announcement.
I wonder if the money is "actually" there but the funds have been frozen until the restructure is complete.

anywhoooo,, she's gotta pay the bounced check fee plus other charges which I tend to disagree with based on time stamp on the check vs the bankruptsy announcement.

just fyi

I had an interview there literally the day before they announced bankruptcy. The interview went well, but I'm not expecting a call back,:rollin:

Sorry to hear about the bounced check, it's usually the other way around in my experience! Hopefully it gets settled after Borders gets back on its feet.

Amazing what banks get away with, isn't it? Charging an NSF fee to the person who wrote the bad check is fine, but charging the person that tries to cash it is daylight robbery. especially since most banks will hold a deposit for 5 business days to make sure the check is good anyway... And daylight robbery is pretty much exactly what banks (and insurance companies, and utilities, and mobile phone companies, etc) specialize in.

My pet peeve is text messaging charges. My carrier charges 15 cents for each outgoing text. Which, though it's a rip-off, is still OK because I know this when sending a text. What bugs me is that they charge 15 cents for each incoming text as well. Whether it's wanted or not. Somebody texts the wrong number and you happen to be that wrong number? Bam - 15 cents. Plus another 15 cents to text them back and tell them they've the wrong number. Which you have to do, because if you don't you'll get a million more texts asking why you aren't responding. At 15 cents apiece. 30, really, because they nick the dingbat with clumsy thumbs for 15 cents too. Spam text? 15 cents. And will the phone company do anything about it, like allowing you to block unwanted texts? No, because they want the fees. They'll simply tell you that to prevent unwanted texting charges, buy an unlimited texting plan. Which, at $10/month on top of the normal mobile bill, is worth 666 unwanted text messages.

I've got a mobile internet stick (connects a computer to the internet via the 3G network). It's hellish expensive, at $70/month for up to 5 GB of data (and they count incoming and outgoing data in that 5GB, so torrenting is out of the question). Still, it worked for me because reliable high speed internet is not available where I live. But, since this stick thing (looks like a USB thumb drive) uses the cell network, (it is essentially a cell phone with no screen, speaker, mic, keypad, etc) it is assigned a cell number. And because it is given a cell number it is given to people trying to call or text it. Now, this being a device used solely for data, it is accompanied with a data plan. That means no voice and no texting is included with the plan. Which means retarded charges if somebody tries to use it for such (something like $2/minute for voice, 40 cents/text). This would not normally be a problem, since the only way to do so would be to remove its sim card and insert it into a mobile phone.

Except that I still get nicked every time some bubbleheaded teenager behind the wheel of her mother's minivan texts me by mistake. Because you don't necessarily have to view, or even receive a text to get nailed for it - somebody only need send it to you...

jcassity - I'd call or visit the bank and complain, politely at first, but not stopping until I got some satisfaction.  That is BEE-EES.

Thunder Chicken - recently read where ph companies were falsely charging data fees.  Can't find link, but essentially somebody bought a phone and plan, turned it off for a week and got a bill for x amount of data transfer.  Lawsuit to be filed.

i am assuming your cell carrier is providing you with your internet also, i have basically the same thing but no cell phone with my internet carrier and have no text/data plan with them, $45 bucks a month.
setting up my computer a little fixed the incoming/outgoing data problem and its like im not even using it most of the time.

get off that thingy your using and get this...
no contracts, just call and re-activate for unlimited at 45USD / mo.

I swear if I had cell service at the house, I would delete my hughesnet account and get this.

the latenancy is .334ms which is really great.  This little thing the size of your credit card just generates a wifi hot spot,, thats it.
I used one owned by a co-worker and it was so slick and quick.

im not really sure i have the energy to persue it.  I'll jump in and help brit if she needs it but for now , its on her to figure out.  I know how this stuff goes and it takes a lot of time and you have to be deliberate in every way.

I am currently in a new project with my home owners policy,, there's always something to battle.
I rarely loose though, it just exhausts me to take on too many of these things at once.

I lost a 10% discount because they say my credit rating went down over the past three years.
Equifax and Transunion show i had 793, 788, and 794 through years 2008-10 respectively, so yes it did go down but went back up.  Coupled with this is another increase of 3% because Celina Group (my insurance) gave themselves an increase due to the following:
-increased healthcare costs due to the new health care bill
-increase in cost of living.

so yea, ill let brit fiddle with this.
