3g upgrade

I am looking to do the 3G (4G?) upgrade to my cougar my alternator is going so no time like the present. So I am looking for the parts to do it. Anyone have what I am looking for? I also do not know all I need so I guess I need info as well.

Thanks

Go to your local boneyard, find a 3.0 V-6 Taurus, grab the alternator and a good length of pig tails, and in the alternator harness 'you'll see a big yellow wire going from the alternator to the under hood fuse panel. Cut the tape from the harness and get that cable as well.

You will also have to clearance the bracket alittle bit, but it will fit after alittle bit of grinding on the back side towards the bottom.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

Any particular year? Also any word on the one you were getting?? I would much rather give someone on here some business than someone I do not know..

Aren't the Taurus alts clocked wrong for the Fox bracket? Or do I have it backwards?
(disclaimer, I have an HO in mine, stock stang brackets and all..)

Look for the 3.0 V-6. I haven't noticed a difference between the years....I also wasn't paying attention to the year of Taurus. If it's a 3.0,it'll fit.

Beau, mine was clocked fine. If it's not, pull the bolts and re-clock it. Easy stuff and a great upgrade. I can run the lights, fog lights, heater, defroster, stereo, and the alternator handles it all with ease.

ok, cool...I'll be on the lookout for a coupla 3G's when I get a chance to hit the yard.

Some say the Taurus alt will work, others say it won't. and yet others say it needs some mods. The last alt I took apart only went back together one way, so I wanted to makre sure everyone was on the same page. Thanks for the tip Vinnie

You're welcome. One thing...Do NOT get the 3G from the 3.8 engines. They are too big. They'll fit a Mark VII,but not our cars. The Mark VII alternator bracket holds a larger case alternator. Grab all you can if they are really cheap. They sell good.
