I haven't had a speeding ticket since I was 19. Got both of them back-to-back in a red car in the back of the pack. Since then, I refuse to buy another red car and I don't speed unless I've got someone behind me to take the fall (which has happened on numerous occassions).

We pay about $165/month for full coverage with the WRX and my wife's 2003 Vue through Progressive. We are both young 30-somethings with no tickets in 10 years.

Although in my mid-20s I was paying Progressive about $70/month for basic liability on the Bird.

same reason i wont own a red car either:punchballs:

Interesting you mention the "back of the pack scenario" I was following someone else through a speed trap and we both pulled into the slow lane when we saw the cop, but he went after the lead guy. I know I was going at least almost as fast as him. Of course, I was driving my black truck....

Well....I knew something stupid would happen if I continued to run without insurance.

I wansn't able to buy insurance until yesterday, b/c I've had no money to buy it with.... and well, Friday, I got hit!!:punchballs:

Nothing serious, just a "fender" bender...  I was at Lockheed Martin (where I work) and had parked my car up by the security shack to get badged in, and was about 5-6 feet behind one of the guards trucks.

I went inside to sign in, and passed the driver on the way in, so he couldn't have missed my car, which was running, (with glassplacks a'rumblin away) and all the lights on, and it was bright morning with the sun behind us, however, the 80somethin year old guard still did not see it. After I got out and was going back to my car, I saw him coming around the side of his truck muttering something.

I asked him what was up, and he had the nerve to refer to me as "...GD asshole parking behind my truck....I just backed into your car!..."

I love that, hits MY car, calls ME an asshole... anyway, he wanted my liscense and insurance card to fill out the mandatory incident report, so I handed him my *cancelled* insurance card (but they didn't know that) and he took it...

They said it didn't need to be reported unless I pressed charges against the driver to get my car fixed. Well, I of course, decided not to, on account of I DID NOT want to risk getting my insurance company called, and then the state somehow, someway, figuring out I was driving w/out insurance, cos we all know thats bad:flip:

Anyway, this is what I now have to beat back out of the side of my car....

Your work should have to pay for it, on account that it happened there. It is not against the law to drive a vehicle without insurance on private property, giving the guard all fault anyways. I would press charges and go out and get quotes on what a body shop wants to fix it, then tell them you'll settle for what you think is reasonable. I would be willing to be that this is not the first time that this has happened to this guard.

In utah, you are still insured until they send you the final bill and have to cover you for a couple of days after it is mailed.

I would not let some a$$hole just hit my car and then drive off without getting something out of it, especially with how often it happens when you don't know who did it.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

I am perfectly aware of that, but, you have to ask yourself, "how did it get there in the first place?"

I've heard a lot of people say they can't afford insurance, but,if you can't afford insurance, how can you afford repairs on your car and/or someone else's if something bad happens? Not to mention injury issues that can arise. Not worth the risk.

When I lived in Tampa, Fl,( I see your from Belleveiw) when my insurance wouldget cancelled (and it would happen a lot) they send it in to the city/state and they sent me letters saying my license would be suspended if I did not get my insurance back within so many days.......... Maybe it's not like that in your county, but be careful
