Learned somthing about clocks July 17, 2010, 06:29:07 PM I learned yesterday that early clocks (till 84) have the lens positioned slightly higher than the 85 and up clocks This should never be an issue to anyone ,BUT I installed LED bulbs in my dash and it changed the hue of my digi dash to a slightly bluer shade. So I bought Watchdevils earlier car clock with the bluish green lens . I put the front of his clock on my clock and the numbers didnt line up. So i just swapped the older lens into the newer front and I'm good to go here is a pic, its only a slight difference , but I thought I would share the discovery ... note the distance between the lens and the select buttons :D Quote Selected
Learned somthing about clocks Reply #1 – July 18, 2010, 02:32:21 AM Oh wow I just got what you were saying... That the lens itself and not the whole face swapped in... The only constants in the clock face are the placement of the small top buttons and the larger lower ones. This makes me very relieved that the effort worked out and what I sent you was not a waste. It's funny that I did not notice that the lens placement needed to be lower though I did notice before I shipped it that the lens was wider. Glad all this worked out okay. I do prefer the blue color compared to the green. However the double-din radio I just bought from a 03 Mustang has a green display and button illumination. I may just change out the whole dash to green bulbs for consistancy. The newer style radio is just too nice to be concerned with the lighting color. It would have been easy to go aftermarket but I wanted a stock look. I did find and snag a green lens the other day for the overhead roof console which came from a later year Explorer than the one I got. I even got the guts out of the overhead console for the temp and compass display in hope I could figure out a decent way to integrate it's use in my 08 Mustang, especially since the mirror integrated compass/temp displays cost a small fortune. Why is this even important to me? I always know its hot or cold and which direction I am driving in... LOL! all this trying to make all the illummination colors consistant. Even with my 08 Mustang they mixed green illumination for my radio and all switches and buttons throughout with the My Color dash cluster which I keep the color to blue. I supplemented the blue dash cluster lighting with my own LED blue ambient lighting for under the dash, cup holders, rear footwells and map pockets. The Mustang Source has a sticky for changing all those green LED's to blue ones but it is so involved that I just don't feel like tackling it, plus the car is still under warranty. Also the digital radio readout and info display in the speedometer has green lenses which the radio one seems impossible to duplicate or change because the lens is green. The running change for the 2010 Mustang converted the standard lighting to an ice blue which is brighter with a slight aqua tint. It's the same lighting in the Fusion we have and I love it but it is not worth buying a 2010 Mustang just to get that, especially considering the fact that the newest Mustngs seem to now cost $5000 more similarly equipped to the one I have. Anyway, slightly off track here but u know I like to ramble... Quote Selected
