Road trip in the 83! Brief review February 09, 2010, 01:30:57 PM Well, I decided to take the rusty ol 83 on a road trip. I ended up going over 3000 miles total. From north central ohio, up to canada, then back home (about 600 miles). Then down to orlando florida, then back home again (about 2100 miles).I must say, the old cat did me proud. Not one issue (well, other than the passenger outside door handle breaking off one side, still works though, heh). She didn't use one drop of oil or any other fluids. Ran perfectly the whole time. The car looks really bad these days, rust holes, and wrinkly fender from where I tree'd it. I would pull up and people would laugh. I pulled into a spot at disney world and some bratty kid was like "man! look at that rusty old car!". It did stand out in a town full of brand new cars (most rentals). I didn't care. Ugly as it may be, it's a good car, and I am going to run it until it falls apart.I did notice that it seems people are way worse drivers than they used to be! I saw sooo many wrecks. It was nuts. Especially when it started raining. I was on the florida turnpike and it started to rain, and there were instantly 3 wrecks in like 10 miles. People kept drifting off the road and getting stuck in the sandy berm too (flooring it and sinking, of course). All in all, it was fun but tense. I used to drive to florida all the time, but wow, people sure can't drive anymore. Maybe I'm just getting old and sensitive, but jeez! I might fly next time...Then I get back to ohio to find my place buried in like 20" or snow, with more still falling today! Oh well, it's good to be back home. Quote Selected

The crazy party is, that cougar will probably outlast most of their new cars, as far as the motor goes anyway. When I bought my 20th from Tampa, it had no power steering, valve covers leaked like a siv, and the cats were pretty bad (good thing I had a leak in the exhaust before the cats) and it made it back from there to here in TN without any major issues. It was smoking pretty bad from the valve cover leak when I pulled into a gas station though lol. Glad to see you still have the love for it though, as rusty as it may be. Quote Selected

She was like "look what's behind us, you'll be happy". Indeed I was. It was a nice silver fox bird with a hood scoop. We pulled into a taco bell and it went by, she honked and we waved at them. They probably thought we were nuts, lol. Quote Selected
Road trip in the 83! Brief review Reply #6 – February 10, 2010, 08:53:57 AM I can relate to the road trip in a Fox body deal. I can't relate to the whole rusty, wrinkled fender thing tho....lolI used to love driving my 83 Heritage T-Bird back in '92-'93 when I worked in North Carolina and lived in KY.Now I drive a company vehicle so I rarely get to drive my Fox T-Birds. (except at the dragstrip):burnout: Quote Selected
