Engine Bay Hood Insulation Update: New Liner Attached "08-31-09" Reply #45 – September 02, 2009, 03:09:50 AM Quote from: Seek;289412Does that hood liner do anything useful for sound and heat though? Heat perhaps but it looks like little more than a rubber or closed cell foam variant. I would think the stock type would do a much better job at sound dampening (neither will do vibrations). Of course, this is one of those things where no actual tests will be done to prove it one way or another. I've also had bad luck with any and all spray adhesives, including the ones offered by RAAMaudio. After 2 years, it began to fall off of my doors and they were cleaned/roughed up more than I likely needed to.My hood liner all nasty due to age and an alternator fire though.Seek , After carefully reading (Tbirddmnd)'s instructions it states that the liner & decals are both heat resistant friend. Engine Bay Hood Insulation Update: New Liner Attached "08-31-09" Reply #48 – November 15, 2009, 10:34:32 AM Gotta check my settings here, it's not letting me know of any replies to this thread!I'm still doing these liners and will do so until the end of time I think! The 1/4 inch thick liner is made from an aircraft firewall material and insulated against heat AND sound. Plus it won't deteriorate and come apart like the stock liner. Both my 97 Thunderbird Limited Edition and 97 Mark VIII LSC have the liner and silver decal and have held up great. The liner just doesn't get dirty, it doesn't soak up any underhood fluids or lubricants. The side that faces out is smooth and is where the decal goes, the back side is the closed-cell material and adheres to the hood with 3M #80 spray adhesive after the underhood is wiped down with a degreaser.More info and pics that enlarge are on my blog at:http://hoodliners.blogspot.comDan - my liner looks great on your Cougar!
