long tubed headers with column shifter

1987 cougar with 5.0 h.o with the stock aod setup, got the long tubes headers and shifter rods and such back in place , only problem is i dont get to select a gear after D on the shifter (headers in the way )

so my question is has anyone figured out a way to keep the column shifter and long tube headers by modifying the linkage set up ??
