I got a new toy, iPod Touch with G-tech

My bother-in-law, to thank me for helping him with his welder, sent me a iPod Touch with 64gb.  My son set it up for me with a ton of music and all my pictures but he also loaded an application on it that is like G-Tech ($12) and it works.  I'm kind of afraid to try it on the T-bird but I used my sons 92 Buick Century and it seems to be fairly accurate and consistence.  I have no idea how it works or how it know how fast I'm going but it told us we were doing;
0-60 9.25
60' time of 2.81
1/8 mile 11.07
1/4 mile 16.94 @ 84.7mph
.49 Max G
and 119 rear wheel hp (advertise is 160hp so this is not far off)

Also has a level application where you just hold it up to the item you want to measure and it tells you the level to the hundredth of a degree.  This should be petty neat to check pinion angles.

Will let me on the Internet if I can hack an address but it does not hook up like the iPhone.

Not sure all I'm going to use it for but it's something else to play with.  But I now have music in the shop using computer speakers.

Anybody else know of a must have application for this thing?

He must have been very grateful ;)

I'm not sure what the newer ones do but it is VERY nice having a couple speakers in the garage with music to listen to. Before that, I used to kill the battery in the car (pre-battery charger) listening to the radio. I think simply searching Google will get you the most useful information on applications you may like on it.

Apple knows where that thing is at all times.....
Scary possibilities.

What's scarier: Apple knowing something about what you're doing, or Microsoft knowing...? ;)

That's a hell of a gift man, congrats. There are just so many apps for it out there. You've got a few good ones to start.

Microsoft for sure, LOL!

But what's scarier than that?  People/organizations who would gladly put that information to use. ;)

Food for thought for 25 years from now : hick:
Honestly, I'd like to try it.  I have a non-public spot where I can  do careless things legally.  I just have to ask ;)

I did not expect anything but it was nice.  He lives in Switzerland and he purchased a welder kind of close to me from a guy on Craigslist.  It was an used tig welder (top of the line Miller).  He paid the guy $5,000 with the agreement that he would also ship it.  This is about a $8,000 welder here and lots more over there.  But he never did ship it and then he started to say that my Bother-in-law was at fault for some reason and demanded more money (he was paid in full but for some reason wanted storage fees and extra shipping costs).  Maybe he underestimated the shipping costs.  This went on for several months and I tried to visit the guy twice and he would not let me in the house, answer any of my emails, ship the welder, or give a refund.  As a last resort I went to the cops and filed a theft report about him, turned out I was not the only one and he also had an unfilled warrant out for his arrest.  This was a minor warrant and one they would not file unless they had to, but he did not want the cops coming to his house.

Anyway the Sheriff called him and I don't know what they said to him (must of explained the benefits for going through with the deal) but he was very nice after this.  He still did not ship it but he allowed me to come over to his house and pick up the welder.  He even had it already to load and could not be a nicer guy.  This is after months of telling me that it was not my deal and I was not to come out to his house.  I was very surprised that it was still there and unused.

After this I crated it up and help ship it to Switzerland where my bother-in-law now has it and it works great.  So I guess that he is very happy to have this all behind him.

As a side note one of the few times I got an email reply from him is when I told him that I was going to file the thief report and he said "Go ahead, I go shooting with those guys all the time".  When I showed the Sheriff this email he was not very impressed.  I'm not sure if he was telling me that he knows the cops and they would not do anything or if he had guns and knew how to use them?

Anyway I'm very happy it's over with also.
