Arm Rest before/after

Well...my arm rest cracked on the bottom of the actual panel and was flopping around so I got tired of it and unscrewed it...here's photos of the panel while it was hanging around and after I pulled it off:

Sadly, that looks all too familiar. You might be able to fiberglass it from the inside. If it works, that would be easier than what I did.

I used some clear plastic epoxy on my dash shell with numerous cracks and it worked well after it set up and completely dried. It set up strong enough that if the repaired areas are twisted slightly it stays together and doesn't seperate. The advantage you have is that you have the vinyl skin on the outside that won't show the repair so you should have good results if you try it.

The epoxy is specific for plastic repairs, come in a dual syringe and is sold at most auto parts stores. I forgot the brand but it is two part clear and blue. When mixed together, the blue turns clear. You have to work with it fast because it sets up pretty quickly. At first it seems it sets up with the consistancy of silicone but after it completely sets up it gets quite hard.

My old 86 had a 1X1 block off wood stuck in it with some self tapping metal screws holding the wood to the door, and some wood screws holding the arm to the wood. Sounds ghetto, but it worked really well and I actually didn't even know the screws were on the bottom until I swapped out doors.

I threw out the cracked arm rest.

and to be honest, it's more comfortable with it being off than on..gives me more leg room, which was a big complaint I had.

I think Shawn is talking about making up some delete panels in a few months.

Until then, it'll be how it is.
