yeah,, that lil relay gets its ground from the EEC,,
the EEC gets its ground from the chassis. That ground is a control circuit for general speaking, the relay ground is switched open to closed.

open- no ground to the relay
closed-eec has supplied the ground by means of a diagram that could possibly cover the kitchen floor with paper schematics.
