Any ideas

I got up this morning got everyone ready to go and went to load all the kids into my van and to my suprise some  :asshole: busted one of the windows. Not only did he brake the window be busted the dash trying to get the radio out and stole my protable DVD player.

Now the questions:

1. I filed a police report. They sent someone out to dust for prints but he dusted some of his magic dust on only two things in the car and said he couldn't find anythin. Is this standard practices to just do a quick glance and say they couldn't find anything?

2. Is there anything I can do to recover what he had stolen from my car?

yes go buy new stuff :shakehead that seems to be your only choice

sorry to hear about the brake in on your car..

this thread gives me a flash back from about 10 years ago when there was someone or some people ripping off goods out of cars in my town "Bay S" Long Island.. to catch the FU@KER OR FU@KERS!! since i did'nt have the garage at my house at the time.. my mom had her stuff in it and was moving to florida.. so i put a video camera to record the actions of the night while i was sleeping.. the reason why i needed to do that was because i was two floors up and unless they made alot of noise i would'nt know what was going on..and ran a video tape for allmost 4 months.. it was zoomed in just on the car and the interior and gave a very clear picture..
luckly no one busted into my car. but if they did i would have them on tape and they would have bin busted!!!

Did you have any marks on the stolen items so you can identify them? check out puppies shops and flea markets etc. otherwise your pretty much SOL finding the person who did it, sorry dude that sucks.

Sorry about that man,  Get a car alarm with a pager so you can kill them next time.  Car alarm saved my stuff when they busted the window out of my Tbird.  Someone's been trying to get into my car for a while now,  Big ole chip on my window from porsilin hitting it!

Back when I had my Grand Marquis someone figured out that the back window could be pulled down.  They stoll my head unit!  Then made the mistake of trying to sell it to a buddy of mine.  My friend saw my name etched into the face and proceeded to beat the shiznit out of the guy!

Ya, that is the bad thing. I bought an alarm middle of last week but haven't had time to put it in. Everything else of mine as an alarm, saved my lincoln on several occasions.

The other thing they must not of had kids they left all the dvd's but my 3 year olds "Care Bear Movie"  :giggle: Plus they left my collection of about 200 cd's.

I just don't know what was going through there heads at the time. I have one of my other cars sitting in front of the hous right now with a  load of stereo stuff in it just sitting hear waiting for them. Phone in one hand aluminum baseball bat in the other.

Unless you plan on calling some friends over to take a couple swings I would forget about the phone, the bat should do a good enough job. Nothin I hate worse than a thief.

Yay a Shameless plug for my precinct!!!  I have the Islip car....directly east of Bays.

As far as dusting for prints:  Wet surfaces, carpets, velour and other like surfaces will be almost impossible to print off of.  Whoever was sent to your house likely saw a smudge or spot in those two areas he dusted.  If you can't see anything on a surface that WILL hold a print then there is almost no chance of there being a print on that surface.
Regarding your missing items.  You can try to claim it through your insurance, but that's a  shoot.  Was the car by any chance ON YOUR PROPERTY ie. in your driveway?  If so and your car insurance won't pony up try your homeowners.

Well they didn't even come out when mine got broke into, just took the serial numbers and my estimate of the damage done $350 to replace the head unit, about another $500 to replace everything they busted up getting it out, some rewiring from the prybar/yank method used to get it out.

I hate that that happened, there's not much lower than a thief, unfortunately, unless he's stupid enough to sell your stuff to the puppies shop, you might as well kiss it goodbye, he probably already traded your stuff for a hit of crack.

Don't leave shiznit in the car...

I left the faceplate on the headunit of the CD player about 2 years ago (Labor Day).  The truck sits on the street...busted the window, smashed up the dash and took the stereo.  The biggest PITA was that while the rest of the wires came loose at the connectors I added, the antenna did not....let me tell you, it is a BITCH to try and fish a new antenna wire on a Gen 1/2 Ranger..go ahead..try it... This was all during a storm that night (flooded my basp00get....)  The kicker is, I seem to recollect hearing something at about 2am, but it didn't occur to me that it was the sound of breaking glass (figured it was the cats running around the house).  I could have been to my car in under 10 sec if I had looked out the window.  The headunit was going bad anyway :p

Oh well...now the faceplate is taken off every time I park the truck at the house, and 80% of the time it's parked anywhere at night.

You leave stuff in the car it's only an invitation for the low-lifes to take it.
