Alright time for the dumb ? of the day July 29, 2008, 09:01:24 PM Ok dont know if this is the right catagory but here it goes. My 87 Bird with a 3.8 has a bad fuel tank, leaking at the seam. I have looked at the coolcats info and interchange stuff but still am not 100%. I got a nearly new tank from a 85 cougar which looks to be the same except for a decent dent in the bottom. From what I can read the cougar tank should be a smaller(not by much) capacity tank. So on to the dumb ? any thoughts if the dent would cause any grief, and will my level sensor read correct or should I use the one from the cougar this tank came from? Quote Selected
Alright time for the dumb ? of the day Reply #1 – August 10, 2008, 11:04:17 PM Its important to know where the dent it is.The fuel pump actually sits inside a secondary like tank inside the tank to help hold fuel for when you are running low.If its bend dead center up forward, id say your sock will clog or restrict. As far as size goes, there have been historical debats and the like on how many gallons various people can hold in thier tanks. If it holds 19-21, then its gonna be fine.Bang the dent out and put it in. You will be fine. WHile you are at it, swap in the 3.8L supercharge fuel pump. Its not expensive by no means and has better volume than your stock bosch. Just ask advance for the 3.8 super charged fuel pump, they carry them.Dont put the tank in until you clean it well and make sure its clean. Wire wheel the lock ring and have fun with the fuel pump o-ring. Quote Selected

Alright time for the dumb ? of the day Reply #3 – August 11, 2008, 07:10:14 PM Yea the tank was junk. It rusted completly around the level sending unit. I put in the nearly new tank with the dent and it ran fine but the level sensor from the donor car was rusted in it and of course didnt work. The nearly new tank only looked nearly new I believe at some point of its miserable life it got a paint job. Luckily the j/y it came from is a friend of mine and took it right back. I went online and bought one from a place called rockauto, I believe. It only cost $100 and they got it to me in 3 days with no extra shipping. Quote Selected
