Cruise Control Adjustments June 26, 2008, 10:04:56 AM I've had this issue since upgrading the engine with larger TB & lots of low-end grunt with good heads & the KB. When I use the cruise control, especially at lower speeds (55-60 MPH), the cruise control cycles the throttle too rapidly and jerks the car around - to the point that it is very annoying. I have never looked at the system but I know some here are familiar with these things. Is there any way to adjust the control unit so that the amount of error in speed can be slowed down or perhaps the rate at which the throttle is engaged can be slowed? Quote Selected
Cruise Control Adjustments Reply #1 – June 28, 2008, 06:17:36 PM Interesting problem there, Here is what i would do.....locate the engine bay vac line leading to the servo mounted in the driver fender well.Put a line reducer in the vac line so as to change the internal diameter of the vac line. This might do the trick and reduce the vac pull. Your upgrades are probably pulling vac too quickly perse' and the line reducer might tame it more.dont be surprsed that you might need to reduce the vac line internal diamter by 50%. once upon a time i saw a throttle linkage comparrison ratio to vac presure created on the stock 5.0. I suppose the engineers had to design this into the servo operation based on vac presures with relation to throttle plate orientation.who knows,, im just reaching.leme know how this works for ya. Cruise Control Adjustments Reply #2 – June 28, 2008, 07:25:35 PM Hmmmm, that's an interesting idea - I think I will try that. Once I get my new fuel system on and the engine up and running that is... Quote Selected
Cruise Control Adjustments Reply #3 – June 28, 2008, 08:39:30 PM There is a pot on the PC board that can be adjusted to quicken/reduce the rate of acceleration... AFIK this setting is the only difference in 4/6/8cyl controllers... I compared the one in my TC to a V8 unit and every component was identical, only the pot setting was different... I swapped to the V8 controller and the problem is much better, but still has a little "hunt"... Been too lazy to try adjusting it, to see if I could get it better... It's OK at 70mph, so I just don't use cruse at 55... Quote Selected
Cruise Control Adjustments Reply #4 – June 28, 2008, 09:00:02 PM Holy - a pot would be perfect - as an EE, I love adjusting electrical stuff. How do I get at this said pot...? Quote Selected
Cruise Control Adjustments Reply #5 – June 28, 2008, 11:25:17 PM pull the amplifier out and simply pop the cover off the back of it. The board also pops out and you can see all the works.TomI forgot about that, you might have a good point there. Quote Selected

Cruise Control Adjustments Reply #7 – July 01, 2008, 08:51:15 AM Add me to the list of people with this problem. I'll be working on the car in the coming days. I'll see if I can find the module and adjust it. --Ed Quote Selected
Cruise Control Adjustments Reply #8 – July 01, 2008, 10:02:11 AM Wow, it's something that's been driving me nuts! I thought I had a cable adjustment issue which I couldn't resolve. Sounds like it's a common problem, seldom mentioned. Quote Selected
Cruise Control Adjustments Reply #9 – July 01, 2008, 10:34:42 AM Wow, I had no idea this would be that common as I've not seen it discussed much. As soon as I get my car running again (just replaced fuel system - what a nightmare that turned out to be), I'll be figuring how to get to this box - do I need to remove the plastic fenderwell to get to it?
