XR7 turbo

Well my dad told me one of his friends has a 2.3t xr7, Im not sure of the year, but its a auto, and the rear end is out of it. Has like 91k on it. Those older turbo cars didnt have the A4LD did they? What auto trans would it have the c4? How much abuse will that trans take?
He said they would prob take a few hundred for it, and if its in good shape.... I have a 8.8 from my old turbo coupe i could throw in....
What do you guys think? If its solid, should I grab it and make it a daily over the summer?
